A This 'n That Note from Ginny!

It’s spring! Well, technically. The first day of spring was March
20th and around that time the weather looked like it was ready to cooperate and bring in the season properly. We had a warm spell where I live, and even managed to plant some trees and move some flowers from one side of the yard to the other. My husband was mumbling about having to get the lawn mower out. He needn’t have worried. A few days later, a winter storm breezed through the area and dumped several inches of snow on our new plantings. Temperatures plunged downward about forty degrees, and I put away my flip-flops with a sigh.

As I write this, more snow is falling outside my office window. Everything is being covered in a thick layer of fluffy white. All the sharp edges are smoothed out. Loud noises are muted, except for the high-pitched laughter of the children making snow angels in the yard across the street. Light reflects off the white crystals so that the snow seems to glow with a luminescence all its own. In short, it’s lovely. Peaceful. As I watch the graceful, feathery flakes float downward, it isn’t hard to believe they’re coming straight from heaven. Something this beautiful must come from God.

I know spring is just around the corner. In fact, it might already have arrived at your house. Before I know it, it’ll be flip-flop weather again. I’ll enjoy the sunshine, and green grass, and daffodils, and butterflies. But in the meantime, I think I’ll bundle up in my winter coat and go make my last snow angel of the year. It sounds like a great way to say farewell to winter.

Enjoy each day God gives you, my friend.

Murder at Eagle Summit

Even if spring weather has arrived at your house, you can still travel out west to a snowy winter wedding with my new book! Murder at Eagle Summit hits bookstores this month. This is my eighth novel (Can you believe that? Eight!), and the first that is set outside my home state of Kentucky. Strap on your skis and get ready for an exciting trip to a ski resort in the beautiful mountains of Utah.

Romantic Times gave Murder at Eagle Summit a 4-star review, and said, “Smith's story is a delightful mystery with plenty of suspense building toward the end.” If you read A Taste of Murder, you’ve already met the heroine and her friends. Here’s a brief summary:

The classical trio from A Taste of Murder head west, to play at a wedding in Park City, Utah. A romantic ski resort seems the perfect place for a wedding. Until a murder on the slopes turns everyone on Eagle Summit into suspects. Liz Carmichael, the bride's cousin, saw a shadowy figure on a chair lift in the middle of the night. But was it the victim or the killer? Liz goes to the police -- and finds herself giving her report to her ex-fiancé, Deputy Tim Richards. After a three-year estrangement, she could finally make things right with Tim. Unless the killer finds her first.

Tinkertime Productions created an awesome video trailer for this book. I invite you to view it here.

You can also read the first chapter online here.

Or, if you’d rather, I’ll read it to you! Visit my website and follow the links, or click here.

April 23rd look for Murder at Eagle Summit in your local bookstore, Walmart, grocerty store, or wherever Harlequin Romance books are sold.  Or purchase it online.  Don't want to wait?  Check out the Reader Fun page on my website. I'm giving away copies all month!

                                                       Upcoming Appearances

April 4, 2009, Barborville, KY - The Redbud Quilt Festival takes place on the Union College campus each year. If you've never been, you've got to check it out! Not only are there some incredibly beautiful handmade quilts, but there are also craftsmen and craftswomen displaying all kinds of handmade items, from jewelry to wood carvings to paintings to... books! Yes, there's a Writers Row in the center of the festival, and this year you'll find me there. I hope to see you!

April 5, 2009, Versailles, KY – if you’re in the neighborhood, I’d love to have you attend Mortonsville United Methodist Church for the 11:00 a.m. service. I’ll be presenting the morning message, entitled, “What Kind of Fool Am I?” Immediately following the service, the congregation will enjoy a potluck dinner (I’ll probably bring something with mushrooms – be warned!), and then will watch the movie “Fireproof” together. Guests are invited to attend both, if they want. Mortonsville United Methodist Church is on Delaney Ferry Road in Woodford County, Kentucky. It’s going to be a lot of fun!

April 18, 2009, Bowling Green, KY - Southern Kentucky BookFest is a terrific event, and I'm excited to be participating again this year. I hope you'll stop by the Sloan Convention Center on April 18th and say hello.

April 25, 2009, West Jordan, UT - I'll do a short reading at 2:00, and then sign copies of Age before Beauty and Murder at Eagle Summit at the Barnes & Noble, located at Jordan Landing in West Jordan, Utah. Copies of my previous books will also be available.

Age before Beauty A Hit with Readers!

The second book in the Sister-to-Sister Series has been out for two months, and I have received many emails from readers who couldn’t wait to tell me how much they loved Allie’s story. I thought you might like to read a few of their comments:

“This is a definite must for mothers (or anyone!) who need a break. It'll make you laugh and help you see that you're not alone in the world - we all need to laugh at our situations once in awhile! Thanks to Virginia Smith for this wonderful read!”

“I really liked this book. Smith's writing is so real and enjoyable. I'm definitely looking forward to the final installment.”

“I appreciate the subtle reminder of the beautiful role faith can play in our lives - however scattered they may be.”

“The story is told with humor and love. I really enjoyed reading the repartee between Allie and her sisters.”

Age before Beauty is available wherever books are sold. Not on the shelf at your bookstore? Ask for it! They can order it for you.

If you haven’t seen the video trailer, check it out on my website here.

Still not sure if you’ll enjoy the book? Read the first chapter here.

Or if you prefer, I’ll read it to you! I’ve recorded the first chapter and an excerpt from chapter 14 as well. Click here to listen!
