A This 'n That Note from Ginny!

Dear Friends,

It’s here! It’s here! Woo Hoo!

Can you tell how excited I am that the release date of Stuck in the Middle is finally here? I can’t help it. Last week my author copies arrived, and when I picked up the first book, I cried! I haven’t been able to stop rubbing my fingers over the cover, admiring the artwork, fanning the pages, inhaling the scent of fresh ink. It’s a beautiful book!  I have it propped up in a place of honor on my desk, and every time I glance at it, I whisper a heartfelt, “Thank you, Lord! Your blessings take my breath away.”"

I love all my books, but this one holds a special place in my heart. The first installment in the Sister-to-Sister Series introduces three southern sisters. Since I am one of three southern sisters, maybe it’s natural that the story reflects a bit of my family relationships. Not that I’ve recreated my sisters in the fictitious Sanderson sisters, but I couldn’t help putting pieces of each of us into these awesome characters. My real-life sisters (pictured from left: Beth, me, Susie) are a pair of wacky, lively, totally awesome women. I think that has come through in Stuck in the Middle.

Sisters share everything—trials and triumphs, laughter and tears, even boyfriends on occasion. When we were much younger my sister and I fought over a guy once, and that incident fueled the feud between Joan and Tori in Stuck in the Middle. But in the end we learned, as the Sanderson sisters learn, that no matter what happens between you, nobody loves you like a sister.

I’ve got some exciting things in the works to promote my newest book, so keep reading to get the scoop.

May all your dreams come true, my friend!

Virginia Smith

Win a Copy of Stuck in the Middle!

A Four Star Review! “What do you get when you have three generations of women living under one roof? Laughter, tears, and a ton of love. Smith knows how to use everyday situations in a humorous, caring way. This is a great start to a new series.”—Romantic Times

Want to win a copy of Stuck in the Middle? My publisher graciously gave me a few extra review copies, and I want to give them away! Send me an e-mail and let me know you want to be entered in the drawing. I’ll select five names at random on Friday, February 15th.

You Could Win a $500 Shopping Spree!

Authors are always giving stuff away, because that’s a good way to attract attention for a book. We love our books and we want to show them off. I'm no different. I am absolutely nuts about my new book, Stuck in the Middle, and I think you will be, too, even without a gimmicky contest.

But...

There's nothing wrong with a gimmicky contest, either, as long as it's a good one. And I think you'll agree I've come up with a really good one! I'm giving away a $500 shopping spree! Jump over to my website and read about the contest and how you might be the lucky one to win $500! You’ll find details here.

Murder by Mushroom
Available in Hard Cover Large Print!

I got an e-mail from my editor the other day with a bit of cool news: subrights for Murder by Mushroom have been purchased by Thorndike Press, a publisher of large print books. They even designed a new cover! Thorndike markets primarily to libraries, from what I hear, but this edition is also generally available. You can purchase it on Amazon.com, or directly from Thorndike Press, or through your local bookstore (though they’ll probably have to order it from their distributor). This edition has a new ISBN, so if you look for it on Amazon.com or BN.com, you might try searching for it by ISBN number: 9781410404541

Looking for a Good Book?

I love books, and when I read one I enjoy, I like to tell people about it. I’ve started a new book review page on my website. In addition to posting book reviews, I also provide links to books being featured on a couple of book clubs to which I belong, the Christian Authors Network and the Christian Fiction Blog Alliance. If you’re looking for a good book to read, pop over to my review page. You can get there through my website, or by clicking here.

Check Out This Cool Blog

Seems like everyone has a blog these days. Many of them are nothing more than an outlet for personal rants, or a way for someone to express their opinions on a vast and ever-changing number of topics. Others invite the world to peek inside their personal diaries on subjects that are better kept private (in my opinion). A few are worth reading -- I love book review blogs, professional advice blogs, and themed blogs that reflect the personality of the blogger. Every so often I come across one that stands out in the blogosphere as unique. Those are the ones I bookmark and return to over and over.

One of the most unique blogs I’ve run into is Crystal Laine Miller’s When I Was Just A Kid. Crystal’s author interviews have a unique twist – she asks them about their childhood. Readers of her blog are given a glimpse into the early lives of their favorite authors – their childhood ambitions, the challenges they faced as teenagers, their proudest moments. She always includes a variety of pictures, and I love looking at some of my writer friends when they were youngsters. I encourage you to take a moment to browse through some of the past interviews and get to know your favorite Christian authors – including Yours Truly! The archive list is here.

Have you found a really cool and unique blog? I want to know about it! Send me an e-mail with the link, and maybe I’ll feature it in an upcoming issue of “This ‘n That.”
