A Note from Susie

Greetings, Dear Friends!

Summer is upon us and I am thrilled! I love the varying shades of green in the trees, the white clouds against the bright blue sky, and the sight and sound of the birds that grace our backyard with their presence. I love to ride my bike on the trails as fast as I can. Every summer I expect to have more time to enjoy the weather and to rest and relax, and every summer I’m reminded that my “summer break” really isn’t one. I’m so thankful for a thriving ministry and yet the truth is, it has become a full-time job. Though  I enjoy watching the sunrise during my early morning prayer time, I (like you) have full days and a long task list. Even so, I love the beautiful weather and I love what God is doing in our midst! For those of you who haven’t heard the news, my son Jordan (who experienced a back injury six months ago) was recently miraculously healed. If you want the whole story, go to my Blog and read the “God Heals!” post. It’s an amazing story and it’s sure to strengthen your faith. I know that I know that God longs to reveal Himself in a profound and new way to those who seek after Him. When we humbly yet earnestly draw near, and when we hold tight to faith, we WILL – in due time – receive a fresh and powerful revelation of His love. What a treasure it is to belong to Him. Though your days are no doubt bursting at the seams, take the time to feel the grass between your toes. Make the time to swim in an ice-cold lake. Treasure the spontaneous moments with friends and family. And above all be earnest in your pursuit of the deeper things of God. When you run after Him, He will be found by you.

Bless the day, my friend.

Great Tips for a Powerful Life:
Encouragement to Care for Your Body, Mind, and Soul

Body…

  • It’s important to wear sunscreen and protect ourselves from excess sun exposure. Wear your sunscreen but also get out in the early morning and enjoy the morning sun. Studies have shown that when a little morning sun gets in your eyes it raises your serotonin level which directly affects your positive outlook on life (This should go without saying but don’t look directly into the sun and talk to your doctor before trying this).

  • I may sound like a broken record but I challenge you to MAKE YOURSELF exercise. Remember, it takes energy to make energy. If you are feeling sluggish, exercise is most likely what you need. Exercising outside in the summer time is exhilarating. Do it!

Mind…

  • Memorize and ponder this verse until it becomes a part of your spiritual DNA: Psalm 26:3…“For Your love is ever before me and I walk continually in Your truth.”

  • In what ways do you keep God’s extravagant love for YOU ever before you? How do you weave the idea of His love into your thoughts in a way that affects your perspective? Do you remind yourself regularly that YOU are someone God loves? Do you ever say it out loud when you’re driving in the car? I hope so! And how about His truth? No matter if your circumstances scream something contrary to His promises, put your feet on the truth! Keep His love at the forefront of your mind and walk continually in His truth. Ponder the impact of this wonderful verse.

Soul…

  • Nourish your soul by slowing down long enough to smell the lilacs. Roll up your jeans and walk along the beach. As Francis Frangipane says, “Cancel your plans to be miserable” and enjoy the wonder of God’s creation. This will nourish your soul.

  • Buy a new devotional and linger a little longer with God when you pray. Just for a change, rather than reading large portions of Scripture spend several days in a row on one verse. Get so close to His Word that you can feel it and taste it and know it. Be quiet. Listen intently. Expect Him to work in you. He will.

Great Books for a Deeper Life:

Never Lose Heart: Encouragement for the Journey
by Joyce Meyer (Published by Harrison House Publishers, ISBN: 1-57794-444-5) is a wonderful little gift book packed with encouragement and wisdom. A friend borrowed me this book recently and it has truly nourished my soul! Here’s an excerpt:

“God is merciful, and He helps us in the midst of our
mistakes. But He is not going to give us strength and energy
to disobey Him continually. We can avoid many stressful
situations and living ‘tied up in knots’ simply by obeying the
Holy Spirit’s promptings moment by moment.” (page 17).

You can purchase this book at CBD for $10.99.

Adventures in Prayer  by Catherine Marshall (Published by Chosen Books, ISBN: 0-8007-9295-5) I loved this book! It’s less than 100 pages long and yet the author manages to pour life, and insight, and wisdom into each page. Catherine Marshall has been a spiritual grandmother to me through the years (only she doesn’t know it). In this book, she uses her own life journey to describe the different kinds of prayers that have been pivotal in her walk of faith. For instance, she touches on the prayer of “asking” and of “relinquishment” and the prayer of “making your dreams come true.” I think you’ll love this book.  You can purchase this book at CBD for $7.99.

Both of these books can be purchased at www.amazon.com

Great Quotes to Nourish Your Soul

It’s not my ability, but my response to God’s ability that counts.

Those who run from God in the morning will scarcely find him the rest of the day.

A Quick Prayer to Send You on Your Way...

Precious Lord,

Fill me up afresh this day with the breath of Your Holy Spirit. Heighten my capacity to hear Your voice and discern Your direction. Overwhelm me with the beauty of this season. Help me not to miss it. More than anything I want to live for You. Take away any and every inferior desire within me. Stir up in me a heart to generously give and passionately live in a way that points others to You. You are all that I need. Strengthen me according to Your Word today. In the Supernatural Name of Jesus, I pray, Amen.
