A Note from Susie

Greetings, Dear Friends!

Today is a special day for me because I get to share my first Ezine with you. This Ezine will be sent out four times a year.  My goal is to support and encourage you in your walk of faith. I also want to keep you updated on my ministry. I welcome any questions or comments along the way.

You will notice a consistent theme in each newsletter (explanation below). You will receive updates on my speaking events and book promotions, practical tips on physical & spiritual health, and wonderful quotes to read over and over again. You will also receive great book recommendations to support you in your walk of faith. The eZine will conclude with a prayer to send you on your way.

As an author/speaker, I have been challenged over and over again to come up with a tag line or a brand that best describes my passion and my message. For a long time I resisted the advice because I didn’t want to be “typecast” or put into a box. I’ve since understood the wisdom in having a tagline, you know, something that helps readers and audience members know what to expect when they pick up my book, read my blog or Ezine, or attend one of my events.

After much prayer, soul searching, and questioning those who are wiser than I, I came up with this tagline:

Deeper Life in Christ ~ Powerful Life on Earth

These are the two things that make my heart beat faster! My heart’s first desire is that we as God’s precious people would send our roots down deep into the love of Christ. The deeper life brings stability, insight, maturity, and a greater understanding of the call on our lives. My second desire, and just as important, is that our spiritual depth would translate into a powerful life on earth. Powerful lives leave places and people better than they found them. Powerful lives believe that miracles still exist today. Powerful lives expect God to keep His Word. Powerful lives ignite in others a thirst for the deeper things of God.

It is my goal that in everything I write, and every word I speak, you will be moved toward a deeper life in Christ and a more powerful life on earth.
I hope you enjoy this first edition of my quarterly Ezine.

May this upcoming year be one of Divine Intimacy and Tenacious Faith!

Be blessed, my friend.

Karen Kingsbury will be the keynote speaker and Bebo Norman will be doing a special concert in the evening. I will be speaking on intimacy with God. This is a wonderful women’s conference and is open to the public. Check the college’s website for more information: www.nwc.nwc.edu

I pray you’ll join us!

Great Tips for a Powerful Life:
Encouragement to Care for Your Body, Mind, and Soul

Body…

  • Make a goal from January through March, not to eat after dinner on the weekdays. Allow yourself a little fun with food on the weekends, but restrain yourself during the week. You’ll sleep better, feel better in the morning, and most likely, lose a few unwanted pounds. Self- restraint is good for the body and even better for the character.

  • Whenever you have something in the microwave, do a strength exercise. For instance, do push-ups against the counter, do squats while hanging on to the edge of the sink, or simply practice balance and develop core strength by standing on one foot for as long as you can (but make sure you regularly switch feet!).

Mind…

  • Pick up a book by C.S. Lewis, Dallas Willard, John Piper, or some other author whose writing challenges you out of your comfort zone. Take the time you need to understand the depths of what they are saying. Better to read it slow and understand, than to rush through and frustrate yourself. In order to grow, a challenge must be present!

  • Target two areas in your life where you need God’s promises to come to bear. Find two Bible verses that correspond with those areas. Begin to pray these verses every morning as part of your regular spiritual “warm up.” Soon you will have these verses memorized, which will sharpen your mind, and nourish your soul. Eventually your eyes will see Divine intervention and you will be reminded once again that God’s promises are backed by the honor of His Name.

Soul…

  • Nourish your soul by blessing yourself and everyone around you. Refuse gossip and grumbling. When you are tempted to complain, count your blessings instead. This only sounds cliché until you try it. A Supernatural Force is at work helping you to think, and speak, and pray, and do the right thing. When blessings flow through you instead of complaints, you will be buoyed up in faith and encouragement. The Bible says this: Your own soul is nourished when you are kind, but you destroy yourself when you are cruel (Proverbs 11:17).

  • Pray whenever you think of it. Pray in the morning, pray before you walk out the door, pray before you speak, pray instead of speaking sometimes. Every time you acknowledge God’s presence in your life by speaking to Him, you are strengthened with the awareness that all of Heaven is on your side. We have constant, instant access to the Lord, Most High. What a gift we’ve been given!

Great Books for a Deeper Life:

Daily in His Presence
by Andrew Murray (with Bruce Wilkinson)

This is a wonderful, daily devotional written by Andrew Murray and revised in modern English.  The daily readings are short but pack a spiritual punch. Wilkinson adds a short sidebar prayer on each page. Andrew Murray is one of my favorites because his deepest passion is the deeper life.  You can purchase this book for  $14.99 including shipping by using our special order form.

Come Away My Beloved
by Frances J. Robert

This book is a classic and has sold more than one million copies. If you are looking for a devotional that personalizes the voice of God, this precious book is for you! “Come Away My Beloved” nourished my soul through the worst of our wilderness times.  This book also reads like a devotional. You won’t be disappointed.  You can purchase this book for  $12.99 including shipping by using our special order form.

Great Quotes to Nourish Your Soul

We must allow the Word of God to confront us, to disturb our security, to undermine our complacency and to overthrow our patterns of thought and behavior.

Deny your weakness, and you will never realize God's strength in you.

A Quick Prayer to Send You on Your Way...

God, Almighty, You are the Everlasting God. You know everything about me and You love me still. Help me, dear Lord, to take hold of Your promises, for they are real, and they are true, and they will change my life if I let them. Fill me up with the kind of faith that changes the spiritual climate around me. Lead me to places of truth that I might do the same for others. Heal my soul, deal with inconsistencies in my character, and train me to make a mighty difference in this world. Give me a heart for the weak and the broken; make me generous on all occasions, and fill me with the joy of knowing what it means to belong to You. Fill me up to overflowing! In Your Precious Name, I pray. Amen.
