RESTING IN HIM

Jeanne Gowen Dennis

This year I began a much-needed sabbatical from my usual writing and editing. In obedience to the Lord’s prompting, I now spend most of my time in ministry activities, study, and songwriting. At first I balked at not being allowed to write and submit to publishers, but the experience so far has been amazing.

First of all, I have become more dependent on the Lord to both direct my days and supply my needs. He is teaching me to trust Him more fully, moment by moment, which is an exciting way to live.

He has expanded my one-on-one ministry, as I now have more time to spend with people in my family and home church.

Having more time to study God’s Word and read authors such as Oswald Chambers, A. W. Tozer, and other great Christian thinkers is another bonus that I hope will add depth to my writing.

Most delightful of all, my newfound insights, joy, and peace keep bubbling over into music. Before I was an author, I wrote songs for thirteen years with little success. Now the Lord has graciously brought music back into my life, giving me melodies, lyrics, and arrangements that are having an impact on those who hear them.

Where He will take me, I don’t know. I don’t need to know. At last I’m beginning to understand what Jesus meant when He said, “Seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you” (Matt. 6:33). I need only to obey—and trust God to take care of everything else.

God is proving to me, once again, that if He asks us to do something, even if it doesn’t seem to make sense, it’s worth the risk. For truly, obeying the One who loves us most, is no risk at all.

Enjoy this exciting news from CAN member Tricia Goyer.

If someone would have told me mid-December that in a few short months I would have moved 2,000 miles away from Montana ... and added a new baby girl to our family I wouldn't have believed it. Yet both have happened. Good--no make that GREAT--gifts from God.

As of April 1, John is the IT Manager at Family Life. We first became interested in this organization after a Weekend to Remember Conference. Over the last few years both John and I felt our hearts tugged toward serving in a ministry that reached marriages and families. Family Life was a perfect fit. After about a half-dozen phone meetings, we discovered they were as interested in our skills as we were interested in them. What we thought would be a long process of finding a fit, turned into a job offer as John's skills perfectly aligned with a vacancy they'd had in their IT department. It was like two puzzle pieces connecting, matching up the picture God had placed on all our hearts.

Around the same time our family was connected with an amazing birth mom. John and I had been wanting to adopt for three years, and here was a young woman who'd chosen us. Words cannot describe our excitement! Alyssa Catherine Marie was born in March 16, 2010. We brought her home on March 22nd. What a gift! I'm loving my days with a newborn, enjoying every moment. Not taking anything for granted.

I've know before that God is full of surprises ... and I'm thankful for the two gifts He's given us already this year! Yes, I've had a few books release too ... but the surprised have been like icing on the cake!!
